Cabbage Wedges

Cabbage Wedges

Love stuffed cabbage but just don’t have the time? Yeah, me too… Here’s an easy recipe for Cabbage Wedges which are thrown together quickly and put in the oven to cook while you’re off doing other things. Easy peazy!

This is very tasty and will only get tastier as the flavors marry the next day. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1- head cabbage

1 lb. hamburger

1- jar tomato pasta sauce (whatever kind you like on your spaghetti)

1- 1/2 cup of white or brown rice, cooked separately (you can leave this out if you like, I did…)

Basil

Mozzarella cheese

1- pkg. cherry tomatoes

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Remove outer leaves from cabbage, wash and cut up into wedges. Place in a casserole dish and set aside

Fry your hamburger, drain fat

Add to the hamburger onion powder and/or onion flakes (to your taste) and salt and pepper

Add your tomato sauce to the hamburger and simmer for a few minutes, adding some basil to taste

Cover the cabbage wedges with the tomato and hamburger mixture, cover with tin foil and bake for 1 hour and 15 to 1 hour and 30 minutes, until a fork goes through the cabbage easily

Remove a cooked cabbage wedge with slotted spoon, drizzle wedge with the hamburger/tomato sauce, top with mozzarella and cherry tomatoes and a side of rice, if desired.

Good served with hot bread.

  1. Robin, thanks for the stuffed cabbage variation. I always made traditional stuffed cabbage – A huge roaster full at a time. Today, I make the meat and rice filling, but instead of making a cabbage roll, I make meatballs and layer them with chopped cabbage and Polska Kielbasi. Then, I cover it with V8 Juice and bake. I’ll have to try your recipe next time. It looks yummy! ~Marilyn

    • WOW Marilyn, your version sounds GREAT! I might have to try it that way the next time and I hope that you like my version as well. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! 😀
