Football Chili

This chili is a sweet chili. Good to make when you need a cozy winter dish while you cover up with a blankey and watch TV.  This recipe has also been called “Calico beans” and is served a lot at tailgate parties. Your friends will love it!

Ingredients:

1 lb. hamburger, fried and drained (use super lean hamburger and you don’t have to drain)

1/2 lb. bacon, fried till crisp (I do this step separately to get it really crisp, otherwise it can be fatty)

1 large onion (or 2 tsp. of onion powder or flakes)

1 green pepper, cut up in large chunks

1 yellow pepper, cut up in large chunks

1/2 Cup Ketchup

1/2 Cup Brown Sugar

1 tsp. salt

2 tsp. vinegar

1 tsp. mustard

1 large can of baked beans, plain

1- (15 oz) can of pinto beans, with the liquid

Directions:

Fry your hamburger til almost browned through. Add peppers in when hamburger is almost done and to saute til tender.

Add your crisp bacon

Add all other ingredients and stir.

Cover with lid warm through and eat immediately, or put in a crock pot and cook on low heat 6 hours.

Serve with fresh baked crusty bread or corn bread. YUM!

Serves 4-6.

    • That’s my husband everyone! He, and our grown sons, love all these recipes and will be honest enough to tell me when they don’t like something. So all these recipes are taste tested for you. Enjoy!
